Keith Pitts comes out of the New York City boroughs, a product of formal photographic training, and the life lessons and human insights learned early as a city street hot dog vendor and bartender, and as a Navy sailor. He made his way through pre-med at the City University of New York (Lehman) before setting his path toward his true calling at the Hallmark Institute of Photography, where he graduated with the prize of Top Portfolio as well as the Mamiya Award of Excellence. In Keith’s photographic career, he has had invaluable opportunities to study under several amazing, successful, and influential photographers, including Ralph Gibson, Michelle, Celantano, and Howard Schatz.
Keith has created a flourishing business focusing on photographing weddings and portraits for the most discerning clientele, while taking occasional commercial, editorial, and travel assignments that feed his creativity, and fulfill his love of constant change. Over the years, he has spent his career identifying, refining, and defining Improvisational Portraiture – a term he coined to describe his careful combination of technique and foresight with spontaneity reminiscent of the flight of free-flowing jazz musicians as they jam together. Now he uses these techniques to pursue his current passion: Photography Unscripted.
